Critical Path Method (CPM)
In this method the activities are connected to each other according to the project planning. The activities are identified in the vertical axis and the time in the horizontal axis.

The different types of links between bars (end-start, start-start, end-end and start-end) make it possible to establish which activities should start before and which activities should start later. These links form paths. The path that has zero float will be the Critical Path.
The most popular applications to perform CPM are: Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Powerproject, etc.
